Hi,
I just tried to make use of Broadcom driver on my system.
But I have several problems.
My configuration:
HP pavilion ZE4430 notebook, with builin
00:09.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation: Unknown device 4320 (rev 02)
wireless card.
I use 2.6.0-test4 kernel (clean kernel.org, not RH one) on RedHat 9 system.
Problems found:
1.
Module loads, I can up eth1 interface, give it IP etc., but
I don't see modem line in log files.
Here is what goes into /var/log/messages:
Oct 21 04:32:22 paw kernel: bcmwl5driverloader: module license 'GPL for files in the "GPL" directory; for others, only LICENSE file applies' taints kernel.
Oct 21 04:32:22 paw kernel: eth1: New link status: Disconnected (0002)
Oct 21 04:32:23 paw /etc/hotplug/net.agent: NET add event not supported
There is no "device" line as I sometimes seen on other logs.
2.
After the interface is up, all iw* commands fails.
As it:
paw:~# iwconfig eth1
eth1 no wireless extensions.
paw:~# iwconfig wlan1 essid abcdef
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
SET failed on device wlan1 ; Invalid argument.
paw:~# iwlist eth1 channel
eth1 no frequency information.
3.
When unloading the driver (for example with bcmwl5stop)
not only eth1 disappear. Disapears also eth0 interface.
Have no idea why.
If you need more details, logs, etc, jsut let me know.
Jan
