The card hasn't been brought up yet. You need to tell it to use DHCP or
give it a static ip address.
I don't autoload either my NIC (Intel Pro/100) or my WLAN (Intel
Pro/Wireless 2100) at boot because I'm constantly switching between
them. I've got both set to use DHCP because I also constantly move
between networks (home and college).
I don't know how to set this up in Suse, but I presume it's some file in
/etc (possibly /etc/networks or something similar). In that file, remove
the autoload eth0 line, and add iface eth1 inet dhcp. Then, when you
boot the box, modprobe driverloader && ifup eth1 and see what happens.
