Actually, it is not as strange at it first seems :)

Bridging to Wireless devices was implemented recently, and only on
Windows hosts so far (i.e. it has not been implemented on Linux hosts
yet). That feature will be available in the upcoming release, VMware
Workstation 4.1, which is the code you downloaded as part of the beta
program.

VMware, Inc. is working on bringing the Linux version on par with the
Windows version (graphical virtual network manager, bridging to wireless
devices, ...), but no ETA yet.
