well I'm running slack 7.0 with a few updates. ppp is 2.4.1 (I think
that's an update on the original 7.0). I've compiled the hcf module for
both 2.2.18 and 2.4.5 kernels.
Does hcfconfig -i report sensible news?
What are the permissions on the /devs? (are you running as root or
sudo?)
Have the drivers (hcfserial.o, hcfengine.o, hcfosspec.o ) installed
correctly in /lib/modules/2.x.x/misc?
If so, try raising the beast using minicom
