[hcflinux] Help please

Greetings to all...
I have been trying to get my Conexant HCF GVC data fax modem to work under Linux Mdk 8.2 for some time now. I have had limited success at best and am near to giving up and purchasing a modem.

I have tried versions 0.91, 0.92, and now 0.93 all with the same results. When I try to configure my connection w/Mdk wizard errors occur. Sometimes dev/ttySHCFO is present, sometimes not. When I query the modem I get, "sorry, modem can't be opened". When I try to connect, "kppp can't find dev/modem".

I have had it connect on occasion, and it works great when it does connect. I actually had it connecting consistently for about a week, and I thought I was home free. I downloaded some updates from Mandrake, and shortly after my modem would not connect.
I have reinstalled Mdk a couple times now, to no avail. I am dual booting Mdk8.2 w/WinMe.

My modem specs are: vendor ID-14F1, device ID-1033, sub vendor ID-13E0, sub device ID-020D, revision ID-08. My computer is a Dell Dimension 2100 w/900mhz celeron, 256megs ram.

Anybody out there with any suggestions? I would truly appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
