Hi there.
I have been trying to install my SupraExpress 56i V Pro (127A:1002) in linux for some time know.
Using "uname -m" i was informed that my system is a i586, but when i tryed to install the the correspondent rpm (hcfpcimodem-0.98mbsibeta02090100k2.4.18_3-1rh.i586.rpm) i was notified that was installing the wrong rpm.
So, i tryed to install hcfpcimodem-0.98mbsibeta02090100k2.4.18_3-1rh.i386.rpm, wich didn't originate any problems.
After installing the driver and using kppp i was able to query my modem, but when i tryed to go online i always got a BUSY signal. I tryed to change my init/dial string in kpp, like someone in the list had said, but it didn't help (in one of the changes i passed from a Busy to a No Carrier signal). During all these attemps i never heard a beep coming out off the modem. Complete silence. :-\.
All the No Carrier solutions that i found where for Suse...
So with nothing else to do, i began inspecting my win2k driver files and logs and comparing it with /etc/hcfpci/inf/hcfv90_linux.inf.
When i found that there where "similar parts" i replaced the parts in hcfv90_linux.inf with the parts from win2k (oem11.inf).
After this i executed hcfpciconfig and was able to select my modem from a list (since it was no longer detected), i selected the updated hcfv90_linux.inf, and chose my country (PORTUGAL).
The next thing i did was trying to connect using kpp, it dialed my isp (with all that great sound that i was used to) and finally connected!
But still... no net. :-(
I am not able to browse the web, and my pings just don't get through...
I have also copied the init strings that i found in my win2k modem logs, but that didn't help.
I'm just a beginner relating linux and in order to learn more i would like to go online "through it", not having to reboot each time i need more info.
Any help would be great!! :-)
Info on what are the correct steps to follow in order to install my modem would also be good. :-)
Greetings,
Davide
