I am using the hcfpcimodem-0.98mbsibeta02101002-1.i386.rpm driver with
Suse8.1.
The modem is a Diamond SupraExpress.
There are no problems whatsoever. wvdial works every time.
I have been attempting to set up PPP manually (in addition to using
wvdial). I can connect to one of my ISPs with Minicom, exiting without
resetting and then entering pppd at the shell prompt. I am able to
browse with Mozilla using this connection.
I am now trying to automate the processs - chatscripts etc. I have found
that I cannot access the modem fromKonsole (or any other Suse Terminal)
. Chat seems to be working, but the process doesn't get as far as
actually dialling out - the log shows the following:
timeout set to 3 seconds
Nov 12 14:42:20 linux chat[1208]: abort on (\nBUSY\r)
Nov 12 14:42:20 linux chat[1208]: abort on (\nNO ANSWER\r)

Nov 12 14:42:26 linux chat[1208]: alarm
Nov 12 14:42:26 linux chat[1208]: Failed
I have tried different initialization strings.
I will appreciate any ideas.
Regards
dl
