Hi,
I'm trying to get my conexant hcf pci modem working at the moment but it doesn't
seem to want to play ball for some reason. It connects okay about half the time,
no matter what program i try (i've used wvdial and kppp to test it with). It
gets an ip and dns info okay, so i know the modem is plugged in and working
properly.
Unfortunately, thats where the good news ends. The modem will work okay for
anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 minutes and then gradually slow down before
grinding to a halt and eventually disconnecting me. You can see a sample of the
slowdown in these ping times:
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=4 ttl=251 time=31257 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=5 ttl=251 time=30380 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=6 ttl=251 time=29380 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=7 ttl=251 time=29160 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=8 ttl=251 time=37367 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=9 ttl=251 time=40603 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=10 ttl=251 time=48833 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=11 ttl=251 time=59957 ms
64 bytes from 203.221.168.5: icmp_seq=12 ttl=251 time=78670 ms
These peaked out at about 150000ms before disconnecting, at which point its just
about faster to carry the packets on foot :) The disconnect reason given is
SIGHUP, which could mean just about anything really. The /proc/pci entry for the
modem is
Bus 2, device 11, function 0:
Communication controller: Conexant HCF 56k Data/Fax/Voice/Spkp (w/Handset)
Modem (rev 8).
IRQ 6.
Master Capable. Latency=32.
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xfeaf0000 [0xfeafffff].
I/O at 0xdfe0 [0xdfe7].
If that is gonna be any help. Can anyone out there shed some light on whats
goign wrong here? Thanks :)
Regards,
Daniel Andersen
