Hello hcflinux post list people,
After having searched through
inet posts, some Modem, vgetty HOWTOS,
and readmes, a question remains UNANSWERED.
The local dealer tells me one thing,
(your modem does voice with softwares, on windows)
but the modem tells me another, on linux ?!?
(main) QUESTION:
??????????????????????????????????????
Does anyone know if the PCI HCF modem
AOpen FM56-PLM (CONEXANT chip set)
"should" be able to AT+FCLASS=8 ?
??????????????????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????????
OR, is voice capability (vgetty) possible
without the AT+FCLASS=8 ???
?????????????????????????????????????
Once the modem is installed on
a Linux station, using "lspci"
we get to read this line:
======================================
00:0d.0 Communication controller: Conexant HCF 56k
Data/Fax/Voice Modem (rev 08)
======================================
Where we can read the "Voice Modem" string.
Using the "listmodem.sh" obtined from:
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/modemident.html
we see:
======================================
PCI CONFIGURATION INFORMATION READ:
Vendor Id : 14F1
Device Id : 1034
Revision Id : 1
Sub Vendor Id : 14F1
Sub Device Id : 1034
DEDUCED INFORMATION:
Vendor Name : CONEXANT
Device Name : HCF P85 Data/Fax/Remote TAM
Modem Type : HCF
Download Site :
http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/
======================================
Notice the "Remote TAM" instead
of the "Voice Modem" previously obtained...
After having installed the:
hcfpcimodem-0.99lnxtbeta03042700-1.i386.rpm
(from the "http://www.linuxant.com" download site)
on a RedHat 9.0 Linux station
(that seems to have recompiled nicely),
using "minicom" we can get the modem
to dial out OK (ATDTXXX-YYY),
but the AT+FCLASS=? command gives:
======================================
AT+FCLASS=?
0,1,1.0
OK
AT+FCLASS=8
ERROR
======================================
Notice that "AT+FCLASS=8" (voice)
seems to be unavailable" !
It is not even listed out of AT+FCLASS=?
????????????????????????????
Is the "voice" really unavailable ???
If so, is it because of the modem,
or the driver ?
????????????????????????????
Returning to the AOpen FM56-PLM
product web site
http://www.aopen.com/products/modem/fm56plm.htm
We can still see that
this PCI modem should have:
========================================
Telephone Answering Machine (TAM) and
Voice Mail Operations
========================================
?????????????????????????
Should the AT+FCLASS=8 be available
according to the TAM + Voice Mail note ?
?????????????????????????
On the "aopenplm" user manual,
(obtained from the web)
http://www.aopen.co.jp/tech/manual/modem/modem_pci/aopenplm.pdf
There is a chapter for "voice commands"
that start with:
==================================================
5. List Of Voice Commands (Voice Models Only)
...
==================================================
??????????????????????????????????????
(Voice Models Only) ? How do we know
if we got a "voice model" or NOT ???
??????????????????????????????????????
In the "hcflinux" posts, we found that:
http://www.mbsi.ca/pipermail/hcflinux/2002q3/000428.html
in some cases, the "Voice in hcfpcimodem" may
not be available:
=========================================
Marc Boucher, marc at mbsi.ca
wrote on that other post:
...
Unfortunately you have an older '71' datapump and the
voice
functionality has only been tested with the newer '73'
datapump.
This limitation will be documented in the next
version. Also the
modem will no longer report the availability of FCLASS
8 unless
the right datapump is present.
...
=========================================
On our modem, the command "ATI6"
with minicom gives:
========================
ATI6
DP Part 74
DP Rev BA
V90 SPX RAM Ver 16
V90 CTL RAM Ver 16
========================
????????????????????????????????????
We observe that the "DP Part 74" is not "73".
Is it possible that the DATADUMP 74
makes the Voice feature unavailable
with the "hcfpcimodem" current driver ?
?????????????????????????????????????
Can we ever hope to use the "voice" features
of this modem (TAM, voice mail...)
with a Linux workstation ?
Thanks,
Nicolas
