Subject: [hcflinux] Turn off speaker
Date: Sun, 15 Feb 2004 21:44:26 GMT

I took a look through the last some of the mailing archives and can't find
anything on turning off the speaker so I don't hear the dialing. Can anyone
tell me if this is possible?

Yes, it is possible. You will have to edit the AT command line to your
modem.

The default for speaker and volume is: ATM1L1
That provides for "speaker on, low volume".
You need to change this modem command to: ATM0L0, and that will turn off the
speaker for you.

The modem AT command reference manual may be of help to you, but I have
found it to be very cryptic and bewildering, it is available here:
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hcf/full/archive/hcfpcimodem-1.00lnxt04011900full/100498D_RM_HxF_Released.pdf

I use kppp for dialing, and it has a built in terminal option that I can use
to type commands to my modem.
Best regards to you.
