Hi,
the patch will be applied to the HCF PCI driver and not the kernel, so
you do not have to re-compile your kernel.
According to the information you have provided for your other modem, I
can't confirm if it will be supported or not by the HSF modem driver.
The HSF modem driver only supports modems based on a Conexant HSF
chipset. If the modem is not based on a Conexant HSF chipset, an error
message stating so will be left in your 'dmesg' after you have installed
the right driver package for your system.
