no, unfortunately I didn't upgrade gcc...

shortly after writing to the mailing list, i recalled that recently i have modified /etc/inittab in order to add a tty on serial port ttyS1, but
of course reverting this change didn't suffice... i've also re-enabled the on-board modem (which is not a conexant device, anyway)
 
i'm quite sure that i've not changed other things during the last days...

if it matters, i have *two* enabled audio cards (the on-board one,
and a cmedia pci card) AND  the bt8x8 audio experimental device (which is useless with my board, thus i can disable it without affecting anything)

ayway, this is the same hardware that worked flawlessly until yesterday with one of the drivers i tested today....
