[hsflinux] Modem hangup after 1-2 mins

Hi,
I recently purchased a pci modem. The CD had the HSF linux driver on.
I installed this. I get a connection but then after 1-2 mins the modem
hangs up. I have tried some things to make it work with no success.
Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Tried this
=======
* Upgrade to latest driver (the one on the CD was from 2001). I am now
using the Mandrake specific binary one which is built for my kernel.
* Change the initialisation string so it uses factory settings (AT&F)
* Turn of compression (I noticed it mentioned earlier this quarter on
the list) (AT&F+D0)
* Run a ping in the background.
What I have noticed
==============
I am no great hardware expert but looking at the logs I noticed a few
things.
* IRQ for the modem is 11 also 11 for the graphics card I believe.
Though I seem to remember reading somewhere the modem IRQ is bogus
because it is nor a real serial port.
* The cat /proc/driver/hsp/0/lastcallstatus (below) shows n400
exceeded. I believe this means something has timed out. I can see
packets going out but no response.
* The modem always connects at the speed specified by kppp never any
slower unless the speed given is stupidly fast.
* Reducing the connect speed doesnt change anything even at 9600
* The modem works fine under windoze
