Hi,
when /dev/ttySHSF0 is missing, do the modules still load (you can verify
with lsmod)?
Try to run "depmod --all" and then "hsfstop" and "modprobe hsfserial".
Also, please look in the output of "dmesg" for any relevent messages.

Subject: [hsflinux] ttySHSF0 plays peek-a-boo with kppp
I am having a problem using
hsflinmodem-5.03.27lnxtbeta03042700k2.4.21_0.13mdk-1mdk.i585.rpm with
kppp in Mandrake 9.1.
I have no problem installing, configuring and using this driver. As a
matter of fact, I am using it right now as I type this e-mail.
My problem is that kppp cannot find either /dev/modem or /dev/ttySHSF0
after I power down and re-start.
When I re-boot to WinXP, and then re-boot to Mandrake 9.1, everything
works like it should. I only "lose" my modem driver when I power down.
To get my modem working again, I have to remove the rpm file and then
install it again to get kppp to find the modem.
I did use hsflinmodem-5.03.27mbsibeta02122600k2.4.19_16mdk-1mdk.i586.rpm
with Mandrake 9.0 without any problems.
Does anyone have a clue on how to keep my modem from playing
"peel-a-boo"?
Bob
