Hi again,
I've done some more testing:
First of all, I've discovered that if I hit 'Cancel' as soon as I see the CONNECT 57600 message, I get a much more promising content in /proc/driver/hsf/0/lastcallstatus :
<#UG VERSION=3>
<DRIVER VERSION=hsfmodem-6.03.00lnxt03091800full>

All other outputs stay the same as per my last email.
I tried booting with "acpi=off" as a kernel parameter. This had no effect on the error outputs.
It is beginning to point towards an authentication error I suppose. Thing is, I'm not sure what this syslog output is telling me:
Oct 28 12:15:38 yanbook modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module ppp0
Oct 28 12:15:38 yanbook pppd[1609]: The remote system is required to authenticate itself
Oct 28 12:15:38 yanbook pppd[1609]: but I couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so.
Oct 28 12:15:38 yanbook pppd[1609]: (None of the available passwords would let it use an IP address.)
I understand I have to authenticate myself to the remote system, and am supplying the correct password. How can I supply pppd with a 'suitable secret' for it to use as per the error message? Or am I on the wrong track entirely?
Suggestions?
