Hi,
this might be because Linux tries to load the modem driver while the
partition is still in read only mode.
Look in "/var/log/messages" and/or "/var/log/boot" and verify what's before
and after these errors to get an idea where this happens in the boot
process. You might be able to find which script to modify this way.

Subject: [hsflinux] Error messages and slow connection on SuSE 9.0
A client is getting the following error messages when he boots his
machine, an AthlonXP 2600 on an ASUS A7N8X-X mainboard with
SuSE 9.0. The modem is an Acer Surf 56k PCI (Vendor 14F1,
DevID 2F00, SubVend 1025, SubDev 8D88).
The modem works, but is significantly slower than under Windows,
even though the driver has been registered.
Thanks for any help,
Dennis Luemkemann
