If *kernel.org* 2.4.18 is the issue and you want help with PCMCIA, mail
me privately, since that's off topic.

However, I can tell you that before the Conexant became operative, I had
loaned someone else's Xircom PCMCIA modem/100 Mb/s Ethernet (C53? M53?)
and making the *Xircom*, at least, work with the kernel.org 2.4.18 is a
cinch - hint: David Hinds's drivers, separate from the kernel drivers,
which did/do not work for me.
