I can only proffer the following - which probably won't help in the
slightest:
1: It's --nvram, not -nvram. At least, that's what I used and it works;
2: You don't list the output of hsfconfig. But if the binary rpm can't
find modules for your kernel, it goes on to do its own compiling anyway.
It's very important that the same compiler version is used both for the
kernel and for the HSF driver. And if you don't compile your own kernel,
how do you know what compiler was used?

This was where I once got an error message in dmesg to the effect that I
should use --nvram after the hsfconfig command.
