Are you using the 2.6.x (and previously 2.5.x) kernels?  The last few
days have been my first attempts at using the hsfmodem driver on a 2.6.x
kernel, previously I'd only used 2.4.x.

I've just experienced a lockup with the 2.6.9 non-preemptible kernel. 
Notably, the system totally locked up this time rather than slowing down
heavily as I described earlier.
