Hello everyone
I really need your help in this, perhaps (and hopefully) it is a common problem, but I'm new in this and I don't really know how to fix it.
I've got an AOpen (conexant) FM56-SLM modem, 127A:2014, I found the exact driver for it, and in the documentation it says it is supported. My PC is an i686 (Celeron 1.2GHz) running RH7.2 with kernel 2.4.7-10, so for all these elements I found the right driver on the list. I installed it as it was indicated, using the rpm, and it autoconfigured to run for MEXICO, as I live there.
After that, everything was perfect, the modem was detected, and then I used the kppp tool in order to get online. I did so, and it connected to the internet, but the problem is that the connection only lasts 2.5 minutes when the most, after that it dies and send me an Exit number: 16 (HANGUP)
I really don't know why this is happening, and I also have no idea how to modify that option, if there is a way to do so.
Please help me with this people, I am dying to get into the Linux world, but I'm an internet dependant I admit, so being online is the only element that has made me stay with Windows yet, hopefully this is a trivial problem and can be fixed.
By the way, another thing. When I connect to the inet using windows, on the part that there is a sound of connection, the traditional one, at almost the end I hear a sound a bit loud and which makes me believe that it is jsut about to connect. On linux, that sound is like breaking, very low and weird, perhaps this has to do with it, I'm not sure
THANK YOU ALL! CHEERS!
