[driverloader] FC3, ACPI, and DriverLoader

I just did a clean install of Fedora Core 3.  The laptop hangs when 
installing or booting and the "acpi=off" argument was used to get 
around the problem.  Unfortunately, now when I install DriverLoader, I 
get an error saying that no devices are found.  It worked perfectly in 
FC2.  My questions are...

1. Is ACPI required for DriverLoader?
2. Is there a known bug in ACPI?
3. How do you recommend I fix this?

My kernel is:  2.6.9-1.667
