[hcflinux] problem with final release & Mdk 9.1?

Greetings, I have been thus far unable to get the latest full version
release of the
hcfpcimodem-1.00lnxt03091200full_k2.4.21_0.25mdk-1mdk.i586.rpm to connect
for me on my Mandrake 9.1 system. I have tried the pre-compiled version
mentioned, and also the generic src rpm as well with similar results. I use
kppp to connect, and have used almost all of the previous beta versions with
usually good results, under Mandrake 8.2, 9.0, and now with 9.1. All of my
attempts with this final driver have proved futile thus far. I tried
entering my license key to enable full 56k operability rather than 14.4k,
but still no joy.
I am using the last beta version at the moment, compiled from src rpm, and
it is working very good indeed. I cannot understand why the final release
refuses to work for me. Each time I try to connect, I get the same
result....ATZ > OK, ATM1L1 > OK, ATDTXXXXXXX > OK........then nothing. It
just stays there, indefinitely. No dialtone, no dialing...nada. This seems
very strange.
I can get the modem to dial with kppp terminal, but consistently get a "no
carrier" result after login attempts.
Has anyone using Mandrake 9.1, kernel 2.4.21-0.25mdk with the final release
experienced anything similar to what I am?
I can/will continue to use the beta, as it works great and I'm thankful to
have it. I would like to be able to get the final to work though.
TIA for any feedback on this, or any ideas I can try.
Best regards.
