With the log efax i should may be help you.
With the openoffice fax printer put the config (in your
home/.openoofficce/spadmin command) to "kdeprintfax (TMP)" as root user, you
can have directly a log of what is going on with kdeprinfax when you send a
fax through openoofice.
Then post back the log.
