[hsflinux] HSF modem picks up line but Does Not Dial

Hi,

I've got an HSF (conexant modem):

and loaded the linuxant (HSF) driver.

Using KInternet, my modem picks up the line (I hear the dial tone on the
internal speaker) when given atdt1234
(1234 as example, or whichever number I have to dial). The modem does
not proceed to actually dial the number given, but times out giving the
message "No Carrier"
I have tried it with and without "Detect Dial Tone" selected through
YaST (Suse 9.3)

I have also tried dialing out using kppp's Mini-Terminal. I can get the
modem to pick up the line, but nothing else.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The process waits right after:
