Hi,
I have a PCI soft modem on a Debian Etch machine, and would like to
try using the Linuxant drivers, eventually buying the "full" ones to
use the modem as a fax with HylaFax, if possible.
I tried installing the drivers using the recommended installer, but
encountered a problem. Here is the output I got when running it and
following the installation steps:
------------------------SNIP!------------------------
#>sh cnxtinstall.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Linux drivers for Conexant modem chipsets Installer
version 1.0.0
Please ensure that all modems are attached to the machine.
Press enter to continue.

Done.

And it halted. I had to kill all related processes by hand, also
because the /var/lib/dpkg dir remained locked.
Then, after killing the processes, I issued a "dpkg --configure -a",
as suggested by aptitude, and got the following output:
------------------------SNIP!------------------------
#>dpkg --configure -a

Would you like to keep using them? [no] yes

------------------------SNIP!------------------------
Now, the devices correctly appear in /dev, but AFAICT I cannot
communicate with the modem. Here is what I get when entering
"hsfconfig --dumpdiag":
------------------------SNIP!------------------------
#>hsfconfig --dumpdiag

Probing "/dev/ttySHSF"...
------------------------SNIP!------------------------
And that's all, no more output, the command seems halted. Hitting
Ctrl-C it breaks and tells me that it saved diagnostic info in /tmp/
hsfdiag.txt, but the file is too large to be sent here on the list.
What should I do now? Should I uninstall the driver (how?) and
reinstall it in a different way?
Has anyone installed the HSF driver on an Etch machine?
Thanks.
